亞洲箱龜一般資料會全部歸類為東南亞閉殼龜屬(Cuora), 但有學者把原來的閉殼龜屬分開來, 分類為3屬, 另外加入平背龜屬(Pyxidea), 大致是以牠們的地理位置和生活習性來分類
